Color, texture and layering are defining elements of my abstract paintings and monotypes. I aim to simultaneously capture a sense of motion and a sense of stillness in these images that explore various microscopic and macroscopic aspects of nature. The elements of texture and multiple layers imply the forces of weathering, aging and the passage of time. Horizon lines which appear in many of my paintings and monotypes provide a contemplative focus suggesting, that which is above ground and that which may be below, that which is in the conscious mind versus that which can only be implied in the unconscious. My abstract water-based paintings on canvas employ the use of acrylic paint and frequently include collage elements. Abstract paintings on paper may employ the use of acrylic paint, watercolor and/or gouache with elements of collage.
