Monotypes
I create these paintings by applying
oil-based inks onto a plexiglass plate and transferring the
painting to paper by use of an etching press. The more layers I
add, the more complex the painting becomes. One of the secrets of
a luminous and satisfying painting is knowing when the right level
of complexity and depth has occurred and stopping there.
I love the process of creating these
multi-layered paintings, which utilizes both a variety of skills
and techniques and also incorporates the element of surprise which
inevitably accompanies the actual printing process. The press
itself always alters the painted image to some degree.
